Grant Funding for Campus Security
Many private and faith-based schools qualify for federal and state security grants — but most never apply because they don't know where to start. Here is what is available and where to find it.
FEMA Nonprofit Security Grant Program Federal funding up to $150,000 for eligible nonprofit organizations to implement target hardening and security improvements. California Nonprofit Security Grant Program (CSNSGP) State-level funding up to $200,000 for California nonprofits. Does not require SAM.gov registration. Applications submitted directly to Cal OES. Diocesan & Faith Community Funding The Diocese of San Jose and other California dioceses maintain internal grant pools and safety initiative funds for affiliated schools. Contact your diocesan office directly to ask about available safety funding cycles.
Knights of Columbus Catholic councils at the local, state, and national level offer safety and security grants for Catholic institutions. Contact your local council or visit kofc.org to explore available programs.

CISA SSAT
CISA School Security Assessment Tool (SSAT) The federal four-layer school security framework developed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. SSA uses the SSAT as the foundation for every campus assessment. Access the tool: cisa.gov/school-security-assessment-tool

Know Your Surroundings
California's Megan's Law database allows schools to search registered sex offenders by proximity to their campus. This is public information and part of every SSA threat environment assessment. A 2-mile search around a Campbell, CA school campus returned 420 registered offenders as of early 2026. Search your campus: meganslaw.ca.gov
